#1 Pilot: Aired Monday, November 2, 1998

Becker is concerned about an HIV-positive child. He braves calling his old friend (his ex-wife's first ex-husband) to get the kid into a special treatment program, and pays for the treatment himself. Becker doesn't appreciate Reggie now that she's inherited his favorite coffee shop from her father.

Jake takes a sculpting class so he can meet women. Becker's patient Mrs. Cooper comes into his office every day thinking she has whatever ailment was featured on TV the night before. Becker has trouble convincing his patient, Mr. Marino, to take his diabetes (and recently small heart attack) seriously because Mr. Marino doesn't appreciate Becker's attitude and thinks he's trying to run a scam. Becker ends up having to make a house call and talk to Mrs. Marino in order to get his point across. He also has to learn how to curb his temper.

When his cousin moves in with him after being kicked out by his wife, Becker must reconcile the two before his cousin drives him and all his friends crazy.
